How to Properly Install Warehouse Cold Storage Labels
Avoid Costly Mistakes
The demand for cold storage warehouses is rapidly on the rise. And with that, so is the demand for effective cold storage rack labeling.
There are numerous environmental factors that affect label performance, from the installation conditions and service temperature to the adhesives and materials used to manufacture the barcode labels.
The wrong choice can lead to falling, cracking or ink-smeared labels that don’t scan. This kind of label failure means costly reprinting, reapplication and lost productivity.
ID Label always recommends testing several options before proceeding with a full-on installation.
There are numerous factors that affect the performance of cold storage labels. Among the most critical is following proper installation procedures to ensure long-lasting label adhesion.
“Finding the right freezer label for your environment is only half the battle. Ensuring that the label is installed properly under optimum conditions is equally important to ensure long-lasting label performance.”
4 Key Steps to Successful Installation of Warehouse Cold Storage Labels
Finding the right freezer label for your environment is only half the battle. Ensuring that the label is installed properly under optimum conditions is equally important to ensure long-lasting label performance.
We recommend you review our “Buyer’s Guide to Warehouse Freezer Labels” for an in-depth analysis.
In this post, we’re going to focus on the key steps required to properly install labels in a warehouse freezer environment.
1. Acclimate the Labels for 24 Hours
Place your cold storage labels in the cooler/freezer area in which they will be applied at least 24 hours in advance. It is imperative that the materials and adhesive acclimate to your environment before you apply labels to your rack beams.
2. Apply Labels to a Clean, Dry Surface
This is the most important step to a successful installation. The rack beams should be clean and free from dirt, moisture and frost to ensure maximum adhesion. This can be a challenge in a freezer environment, we know. For best results, wipe the application area with a clean rag and some isopropyl alcohol.
3. Press Firmly to Apply
Use your full hand, including adequate palm pressure, to apply the labels smoothly and eliminate any air bubbles. Pressing firmly helps to ensure a maximum bond to the beams.
4. Allow 48 hours for bonding
Allow 48 hours for bonding to occur before checking adhesion to your rack beams.
